Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

This Privacy Notice explains how typebyline ("typebyline", "we", "us") collects and uses your personal data when you use the Typebyline service at typebyline.com. typebyline is the data controller responsible for your personal data under applicable data-protection laws.

2. Information We Collect

  • Account data — name, email address, password (hashed), preferred language, and any profile information you provide.
  • Usage data — typing progress, saved sentences, XP, language choices, and similar product telemetry.
  • Support data — messages and tickets you submit to us.
  • Device and log data — IP address, browser/device identifiers, pages visited, and timestamps, collected automatically.

Payment card details are collected and processed directly by Paddle, our Merchant of Record (see Section 5). typebyline does not see or store your full card number.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • Create and operate your account and the Service.
  • Personalize your learning experience and remember your language preferences.
  • Provide customer support and respond to your inquiries.
  • Detect, prevent and address fraud, abuse and security incidents.
  • Improve the Service and develop new features.
  • Send important service notices (account, security, billing-related).

4. Legal Basis for Processing

Where data-protection laws such as the GDPR or UK GDPR apply, we rely on the following legal bases:

  • Performance of a contract — to provide the Service you signed up for, including managing your account and subscription.
  • Legitimate interests — to keep the Service secure, prevent fraud and abuse, analyse usage to improve the product, and communicate service updates.
  • Consent — for any optional marketing communications or non-essential cookies, where required. You can withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legal obligation — to comply with applicable laws, tax and accounting requirements, and lawful requests from authorities.

5. Sharing Your Data

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with:

  • Service providers / sub-processors that help us run the Service, including hosting and database (Supabase), and AI providers used for translations and text-to-speech.
  • Paddle.com Market Limited and its affiliates ("Paddle"), our Merchant of Record, for the sale of the Service, subscription management, payments, tax compliance and invoicing. Paddle processes your data as an independent controller under the Paddle Privacy Notice.
  • Professional advisers (e.g. legal, accounting) where reasonably necessary.
  • Authorities where we are required to do so by law or to protect our rights.

6. International Transfers

Some of our service providers (including Paddle and AI providers) may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, or adequacy decisions.

7. Cookies

We use essential cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in and remember your preferences. We may also use limited analytics cookies to understand product usage. Where required by law, we will ask for your consent before placing non-essential cookies. You can manage cookies through your browser settings.

8. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we will delete or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must keep it to comply with legal, tax or accounting obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.

9. Your Rights

Subject to your jurisdiction (including under the GDPR/UK GDPR where applicable), you may have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to processing of your personal data, to data portability, and to withdraw consent. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@typebyline.com. We will respond within the period required by applicable law (normally one month).

10. Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit, access controls, and regular review of our providers. No method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure.

11. Children's Privacy

Typebyline is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect data from children under that age.

12. Changes

We may update this Privacy Notice from time to time. We will post any changes on this page and update the "Last updated" date.
